300 Plus 70 Million

WTF. Rarely am I so wrong about how much money a film is going to pull in over the weekend. I thought for sure 300 would come in at number one. It was the only movie to make my "must see" list for this weekend. But first place for a March weekend is generally about 30 million dollars. Occassionally a cartoon or well marketed comedy will spike above that. (Wild Hogs made a remarkable 40 million last weekend)
However, 300 made 30 million on Friday alone and by the time the bell rang on Sunday afternoon the movie had capped at about 70 million dollars.
Looks like the summer movie season is heating up earlier than usual this year.
Next weekend I suspect 300 will do battle with Dead Silence for the top slot. I don't think Silence will rake in 70 million, but 30 million is not impossible. Word of mouth for 300 will determine whether it holds on to the top slot or not.
Either way 300 was huge and I am sure it won't take too long for the next Frank Miller graphic novel to hit the big screen.
