I don't know why it even makes me mad any more. I know that when award season rolls around, whether it be The Academy Awards, The Grammys, The Golden Globes, or The Emmys I'm just going to be pissed off. And this year is no different. The snubs are grotesque.
In the best drama category we have:
Boston Legal
Grey's Anatomy
Heroes
House
The Sopranos
All good shows in their own right. But let's break this down...Heroes is definitely the weakest of the programs on here. The finale was a build-up to nothing. The acting was spotty and trite at best. Grey's Anatomy had its weakest season to date. Boston Legal was never focused and seemed to jump around and shouldn't it be a comedy? Where in the hell is Lost? Where is The Shield? Leaving these two programs off for Heroes is an atrociuous oversight. And the kicker, The Emmys actually extended its deadline this year so that The Sopranos could include its series finale in the voting screeners.
Let's turn to the comedy series category:
Entourage
The Office
30 Rock
Two and a Half Men
Ugly Betty
Entourage and The Office deserve it. One of them should win. Neither of them will. That honor will go to the sort-of funny 30 Rock. Two and a Half Men should have been nominated for best show in the LAME category as this season was a huge failure and several episodes were actually completely laughless. Ugly Betty is a great new show and I'm glad it is getting recognized. But where is My Name Is Earl? And What about New Adventures of Old Christine. And let's not forget Desperate Housewives which was so much better this season.
The other snub that I am shocked to see is Friday Night Lights. I didn't religiously watch the show, but I know that the storylines were tight and the writing was some of the best on television.
Looking at the acting categories I have just a couple of quick things to say:
Best Actor:
James Spader
Hugh Laurie
Dennis Leary
James Gandolfini
Keifer Sutherland
Does Keifer realy even have to act any more? And James Gandolfini basically is Tony Soprano these days. Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson got bumped to supporting cast. Where in the hell is Michael Chiklis or Walter Goggins from The Shield? Seriously people?
In the supporting actress category I have two things to say. How could Aida Tururro be nominated for The Sopranos? She was in all of three episodes of a 9 episode season. Her part was the same loud, annoying, yelling bitch that it has always been. Where's the range...
And finally, where is Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost? How could Juliette not be nominated?
Once again I won't be watching this awards show. But I will be picking the winners as it gets closer to time.
The best race will be for Best Actress:
Sally Field
Kyra Sedgwick
M. Hargitay
P. Arquette
Minnie Driver
Edie Falco
WOW! Those are some serious acting chops. Look for Glenn Close to be in this race next year along with Holly Hunter for their roles on Damages and Saving Grace respectively.
Out!
