Comic-Con Lost Tidbits

No huge news was leaked at Comic-con this year. The biggest news was spoiled a day early when media and critics clawed the information from ABC that Harold P. would be returning. Lindelof and Cuse said that Michael will be a full series regular again and that he would appear sometime in the first four episodes. They wouldn't say if he was returning in flash-forwards or in real time.

The flash forwards have always been a part of the plan, but they couldn't introduce them until they had an end date because the story have a very specific frame from this point forward and ruining that surprise early could have caused a lot of story-filler and tap dancing.

Some other bits:

Ben didn't intend to get swept up in Daniele's net in season 2. It was an accident. The big reveal though is still to come because the question we should be asking is "Where was Ben heading."

Daniele's story will be told in the future, but some other things have to sync up with another person first.

Next season will have flash backs and flash forwards, but the most important news about the time line is that the scene with Jack and Kate in the finale is NOT the end of Lost. They will flash every further forward.

No word on who was in the coffin or who exactly is on the freighter.

Libby's story will resurface in season 4. There were some hints that she had significant ties to DHARMA. That's important because she obviously had something to do with Desmond ending up on the island and something to do with Hurley in the mental hospital. They assure us this will be a very good reveal.

Not too much was mentioned about Jacob or Annie or any of the climatic events leading up to the finale which is disappointing since we have so much longer to wait than usual...BUT, I'd rather know too little than too much.

Why Not Memphis???

This stuff never happens in Memphis. A television station in Hawaii this week was awarded some new call letters. They are: KUNT. Can you imagine, "good evening and thank you for watching our KUNT."
A station in Arizona (owned by the same man as the one in Hawaii) was awarded KWTF. "Good evening and welcome to K- What The Fuck."

I love it.

Damages and Saving Grace; 2 Show Reviews

Damages premiered Tuesday night on FX. It is a legal thriller starring Hollywood heavyweight Glenn Close as shark-like attorney Patty Hewes. The show is both legal thriller and mystery. It begins with Rose Byrne climbing out of an elevator bloody and beaten. She stumbles to a police station as the interrogation begins.
The show then jumps back in time six months to show Byrne's character Ellen Parsons interviewing for a job with a law firm. She ultimately takes a job for Hewes's law firm, but not without a stern warning from a friend about Hewes' killer reputation.
Parsons is immediately put on a major case in which Ted Danson is the defendant. He plays a billionaire charged with bilking millions of dollars from his employees in a stock scandal. He doesn't play fair and the two sides quickly engage in deadly games.
How did Parsons end up bloodied six month in the future? Whose blood is it? Why was Parson's immediately thrust on this high profile case when she is so wet behind the ears?

The show is fast paced, there are twists and turns at every corner, and the good guys aren't always as good as you'd hoped. Glenn Close is on the top of her game. This show really is going to be a wild ride for the next three months. Catch a repeat of it as soon as you can.

Now, in a completely different type of show, Holly Hunter takes on the small screen in the new TNT dramedy Saving Grace. Hunter plays Grace, a hard-to-the-core Oklahoma City cop with a bad drinking habit and a big need to sleep around. One night after a night of heavy drinking Grace strikes a man with her car. Luckily Earl, an angel, swoops in to grant her one last chance on God's behalf.
Grace is skeptical at first, but soon comes to realize that Earl is real, not just a drunken figment of her imagination. But can she change her ways? We'll see. Holly Hunter is funny, charming, and almost too hot to handle. You root for her and against her at the same time. But mostly you root for her.
Saving Grace is another summer treat and you can catch Monday night's after The Closer.

Cloverfield

The first poster for JJ Abrams mysterious new movie was released today at Comic-Con. The movie, a monster-themed action flick similar to Godzilla, will hit theaters in January. The secretive production first made news when a teaser trailer premiered before Transformers over the July 4th weekend. The unofficial (working) title of the movie is Cloverfield.

LOST NEWS

Ok, well I don't actually have any new lost news right now. I am sure some of you have already heard that Michael will be back next season. He signed up for the whole season. I assume that means Walt will be back too. My guess is that we will see then in the future, off the island. It will also make it really easy for them to explain why Walt is six feet tall.

Anyway, I am sitting by right now waiting for news from the Lost panel at Comic-Con to start pouring in. This is the only time the rest of 2007 that Carlton and Damon will be talking about season 3 or 4 of Lost. So there should be some good bits of info coming in soon. I promise to keep my fellow Losties up on the news as I hear it.

Some Lyrics

These are the lyrics to the song Broken on the new Lifehouse cd. I think that they are pretty powerful. Let me know what you think.

The broken clock is a comfort, it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can stop tomorrow from stealing all my time
I am here still waiting though i still have my doubts
I am damaged at best, like you've already figured out

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain is there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

The broken locks were a warning you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded, I'm an open book instead
I still see your reflection inside of my eyes
That are looking for a purpose, they're still looking for life

I'm falling apart, I'm barely breathing
with a broken heart that's still beating
In the pain is there is healing
In your name I find meaning
So I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on, I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm handin' on another day
Just to see what you will throw my way
And I'm handing on to the words you say
You said that I will be ok

The broken lights on the freeway left me here alone
I may have lost my way now, haven't forgotten my way home

Musical Notes

Yellowcard's new CD Paper Walls is great. There is one song called "Dear Bobbie," and it is probably the sweetest song that I've heard since Colin Ray's song "Love Me." The cd is soooo much better than their last.

Paolo Nutini's album is amazing. It's in the same vain as some later John Mayer stuff. Throw in a little Jack Johnson and a little Damien Rice with a dash of James Blunt and you get the idea. I saw him perform "What a Wonderful World" on the Live Earth broadcast and was immediately sold.

The new Sum 41 record "Underclass Hero" is pretty good. A bit slower than I expected. It's like they have taken the later stuff of Blink 182 and crossed it with Green Day's American Idiot. It doesn't rock out like their album "Chuck," but there are tons of catchy infectious tunes.

Get the new Lifehouse record.

Going to see The Honorary Title and The Format this Friday at the Daisy. I expect a great show. It will be my third time to see The Honorary Title. They are always great. 2nd time to see The Format. The last time I saw them they were playing with a lot of poppy acts and they didn't quite fit. This time, as headliners, they will be a little more in control. Meet us at the daisy if you'd like!

Big Brother Quick Hits

-Why do they spell Evil Dick's name EVEL? Did I miss something? Is it like Evel Kinevel (sp) or something?

-Dick lived up to his name over the past week. Can we now call him Ego Dick or Power Trippin' Dick? He had better start listening to his daughter or he is going to end up back on the block next week with a good chance of going home.

-I think that Kail actually has a chance to stay. Hear me out. By voting out Mike the houseguests would ensure that Kail and Dick would continue their fighting. As long as they are both in the house then the our guests will feel much better because the target on their backs would be considerably smaller.

-Two players have really grown on me. Jessica and Eric. I think that they are both playing the game really well and they are keeping their noses clean. I do think that Big Brother is going to end up costing Eric a chance to win though. If they keep up this "sabatoge someone's property" crap then Eric is going to get caught and he is going to have to go home. I hope that doesn't happen.

-All of the players are doing so much better this week since no one is on slop. I love the idea of torturing the houseguests with crap, but it is no fun to watch half the house slothing around with no energy and no desire to play the game.

-I wish that Big Brother would do more games. I like seeing games where you can win something good or have something bad happen to you. I wish there were more "wear a unitard for 24 hours" type situations. I also hope that they allow us to wake up the houseguests all night again...and other stuff. Come on Big Brother, let's get this thing going.

-Do you watch Big Brother After Dark? Is it just me or does Amber not know how to sit like a lady? Every time I see her she is leaning back with her legs wide open.

-I ordered Showtime in hopes of seeing some hot after hours action in the house. Zach streaking is not really where I was going with that...oops.

-What's with Nick and the trash-stache. Shave, my brother. You look like crap.

Is Anyone Out There?

Comments on the blog have been few and far between on here lately. I obviously don't expect comments on every post, but every once and a while I want to know that you guys are out there. I am starting to think that I am wasting my time and that no one is reading any more. This isn't a poor poor pitiful me thing...just a please tell me you're still my friend kind of thing. HA!

Just Criminal

It looks like the show Criminal Minds is about to do the one thing that would actually make me watch the show. They are about to add Geena Davis to their cast. For those of you who aren't in the know, Criminal Minds is a serial drama about a team of investigators who handle highly intense cases usually featuring a criminal mastermind . The show has gained some staggering and shocking ratings and was even awarded the coveted post Super Bowl time slot last year.
Well a couple of weeks ago the show's lead actor decided he didn't want to work anymore and just didn't show up. So CBS has been scrambling for a replacement and it looks like Geena Davis might be the person to step in and take over. If this is the case then I will certainly and see if she can make this show watchable.

Big Brother Power Rankings

Dick is HoH. Dick is HoH! Whooo Hooooo! I'm psyched. Jen and Kail had better watch their backs. The other person who needs to be very under the radar this week is Mike. Everyone is on to Mike and Kail's little alliance and it wouldn't be a far stretch to nominate Kail and Mike knowing that if one of them were saved you could nominate Jen. Is anyone sad that cookie nips got evicted. I think Dustin will be able to be his own person a little easier now. We'll see.

Anyway, the power rankings saw a big shake-up last night as the house awarded Evil Dick the HoH. And now...The 1st Big Brother 8 Power Rankings

1. Danielle
2. Jessica
3. Jameka
4. Kail
5. Mike
6. Evil
7. Eric
8. Zach
9. Amber
10. Nick
11. Jen

A few notes: Danielle is a veto and HoH machine. She is always in the mix. As long as she has a chance to win a competition and she isn't back doored then she is a threat. Plus she has Dick who would do anything for her and Nick who is a big bafoon that she has wrapped around her fingers.
Jessica and Jameka are under the radar and sitting pretty. Everyone seems to like Jessica especially. Did you see the reaction that Jen gave Eric when he suggested her for nomination. She is going to have to play the game eventually, but right now she is sitting pretty.
Eric, America's Player is only at 7 because I think America is eventually going to steer him wrong. The America's choice idea also seems to limit who he can make an alliance with because what if America votes to kick off a person that his alliance is in cahoots with. Could be hairy.
Jen is in last place because everyone in the house hates her. She is perceived as a loose cannon. And lastly, Nick is ranked so low because he is obviously being played by Danielle, he's already turned on his alliance in his head, and everyone is watching his every move too closely.

Cool T-Shirts, Bad Porn

So, I was surfing some of my favorite sites today at work. One of which is Bustedtees.com. They always have a wide assortment of funny and absurd shirts. Well as I was typing it in I accidentally got a little carried away and typed in www.bustedteens.com

Whoops.

I honestly have no idea if that is a porn site or not. I X'ed out of there so fast my computer actually locked up on me. But needless to say, it could have been a close call. Just thought I would share.

The Emmys

I don't know why it even makes me mad any more. I know that when award season rolls around, whether it be The Academy Awards, The Grammys, The Golden Globes, or The Emmys I'm just going to be pissed off. And this year is no different. The snubs are grotesque.

In the best drama category we have:
Boston Legal
Grey's Anatomy
Heroes
House
The Sopranos

All good shows in their own right. But let's break this down...Heroes is definitely the weakest of the programs on here. The finale was a build-up to nothing. The acting was spotty and trite at best. Grey's Anatomy had its weakest season to date. Boston Legal was never focused and seemed to jump around and shouldn't it be a comedy? Where in the hell is Lost? Where is The Shield? Leaving these two programs off for Heroes is an atrociuous oversight. And the kicker, The Emmys actually extended its deadline this year so that The Sopranos could include its series finale in the voting screeners.

Let's turn to the comedy series category:
Entourage
The Office
30 Rock
Two and a Half Men
Ugly Betty

Entourage and The Office deserve it. One of them should win. Neither of them will. That honor will go to the sort-of funny 30 Rock. Two and a Half Men should have been nominated for best show in the LAME category as this season was a huge failure and several episodes were actually completely laughless. Ugly Betty is a great new show and I'm glad it is getting recognized. But where is My Name Is Earl? And What about New Adventures of Old Christine. And let's not forget Desperate Housewives which was so much better this season.

The other snub that I am shocked to see is Friday Night Lights. I didn't religiously watch the show, but I know that the storylines were tight and the writing was some of the best on television.

Looking at the acting categories I have just a couple of quick things to say:

Best Actor:
James Spader
Hugh Laurie
Dennis Leary
James Gandolfini
Keifer Sutherland

Does Keifer realy even have to act any more? And James Gandolfini basically is Tony Soprano these days. Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson got bumped to supporting cast. Where in the hell is Michael Chiklis or Walter Goggins from The Shield? Seriously people?

In the supporting actress category I have two things to say. How could Aida Tururro be nominated for The Sopranos? She was in all of three episodes of a 9 episode season. Her part was the same loud, annoying, yelling bitch that it has always been. Where's the range...
And finally, where is Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost? How could Juliette not be nominated?

Once again I won't be watching this awards show. But I will be picking the winners as it gets closer to time.

The best race will be for Best Actress:

Sally Field
Kyra Sedgwick
M. Hargitay
P. Arquette
Minnie Driver
Edie Falco

WOW! Those are some serious acting chops. Look for Glenn Close to be in this race next year along with Holly Hunter for their roles on Damages and Saving Grace respectively.

The Good and The Bad in Casting News

First the good:
Kal Penn of Harold and Kumar fame (he played Kumar) is joining House as one of the interns briefly replacing House's normal targets. The other will be played by The O.C.'s Olivia Wilde. This is great casting news and should be a great way to showcase Penn's acting chops.

The Bad:
Danny Glover has been signed by Brothers and Sisters to play a new love interest for Sally Field. Yes, Sally Field. Did these people not watch Saw? Have they not seen Gone Fishing? Are they blind to the fact that Danny Glover isn't a good actor? I'm a huge fan of Lethal Weapon, but I assure you, he isn't the reason it was such a successful franchise.

Ok, prove me wrong Danny!

The Dance Of The Big Brother

Sorry that this is my first post since Big Brother 8 officially got underway. I will make up for it I promise. But first let's jump right into the drama.
Is Jen the most easily hate-able person in the history of the show? I mean she oozes with every quality that I would ever find disgusting in someone. She is so self centered that I honestly don't think she understands the target that she is drawing on her own back.
I thought the threats she threw at Joe and Amber before the Power Of Veto game were so out of line. Yes, it's a game and her strategy might be to simply intimidate her way to the finals. However, if she's ever watched a season of Big Brother she would understand that you can't win doing that. I hate her and I would kill to see Evil Dick win HoH next week just to nominate her.

I'm guessing that Joe is going home this week. It could still be Evil Dick since you know the petty (pretty) chicks don't really want the big ugly guy in the house. BUT, it seemed like there was a strong over-all consensus to nominate Joe. Joe is not going to go down without a fight.

Eric, who is easily the most foul-mouthed, vulgar player I have seen in a while (watch After Dark on Showtime) is starting grow on me. When I saw that he was America's player I was annoyed. He isn't good looking and so he can't manipulate the game using his looks. He doesn't come off as extremely smart. Yet, as the days go by I find myself more and more confident that he can stick around for a while. He is extremely funny, the house seems to like him, and he is a good sport with all of the challenges. I thought that I was going to pass out when he crawled in to bed with Joe. When he said, "sorry America, I had to get out of there or I might have been stuck there the rest of the season" I almost lost it.

After Thursdays eviction I will post my first power rankings...here is a sneak peak at the top 3 as it stands right now...

1. Kail (Her alliance is set and she has already won a competition)
2. Danielle (she's one two veto comps and saved herself. Plus her dad would drop out for her)
3. Mike (he seems to be a fly on the wall, yet the Mrs. Robinson Alliance is a major play)

See the updated and complete rankings on Friday!

Isaiah Washington Joins A New Show That I Will Now Be Skipping

Washington has joined the cast of Bionic Woman on NBC. The peacock network just lost a fan in me. While I will keep up with the shows I am already watching on the station something will have to truly stand out to make me tune in to anything new, especially Bionic Woman.

The Report:

Well, that didn’t take long: Isaiah Washington has rebounded! NBC Universal Co-Chairman Ben Silverman announced today at his first press tour session that he has hired the actor who formerly played Dr. Preston Burke to join the cast of “Bionic Woman.” Washington has been signed up for five of the first six episodes, with the possibility of more.

“He’s a wonderful actor and a great performer, and he became available,” said Silverman, a comment that drew laughter in the standing-room-only ballroom.

“I started talking to him before he was available, to deal with the laughter. When he told me he was available, I was like, 'You are?' I didn’t quite understand what had gone on there. The bottom line is he’s a wonderful actor. The character is very strong and one in which he will do a great job.”

Box Office Trends

I haven't seen the new Harry Potter flick, but it stands poised to compete for the top spot in movie grosses for 2007 at the box office.

I was shocked when I looked back at the 2006 numbers. I had totally forgotten that Night at the Museum was the number 2 movie of the year. It wrapped up with nearly 251 million bucks. The top 5 were:

Pirates 2 (423 Million)
Night at the Museum
Cars
X-Men 3
Superman

So far 2007 looks like this:

Spider-man 3 (334 million)
Shrek 3
Pirates 3
Transformers (222 and gaining)
300 (210, but it's already closed it's run)

Harry Potter is close behind at 8th on the year after an amazing first week.

Lots of good stuff still to come too.

Finally Back!

Hey, I'm back from vacation and ready to get back to posting. Hope you all missed me. Here's something I stole from Brooke Smith's myspace page. I thought that it was kind of funny.

A modern day cowboy has spent many days crossing the Texas plains without water. His horse has already died of thirst. He's crawling through the sand, certain that he has breathed his last breath, when all of a sudden he sees an object sticking out of the sand several yards ahead of him. He crawls to the object, pulls it out of the sand, and discovers what looks to be an old briefcase. He opens it and out pops a genie.
But this is no ordinary genie. She is wearing a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) ID badge and a dull gray dress. There's a calculator in her pocketbook. She has a pencil tucked behind one ear. "Well, cowboy," says the genie... "You know how I work....You have three wishes." "I'm not falling for this." said the cowboy... "I'm not going to trust a FEMA genie." "What do you have to lose? You've got no transportation, and it looks like you're a goner anyway!"
The cowboy thinks about this for a minute, and decides that the genie is right. "OK!, I wish I were in a lush oasis with plenty of food and drink."
***POOF***
The cowboy finds himself in the most beautiful oasis he has ever seen, and he is surrounded with jugs of wine and platters of delicacies.
"OK, cowpoke, what's your second wish."
"My second wish is that I was rich beyond my wildest dreams."
***POOF***
The cowboy finds himself surrounded by treasure chests filled with rare gold coins and precious gems.
"OK, cowpuncher, you have just one more wish. Better make it a good one!"
After thinking for a few minutes, the cowboy says... "I wish that no matter where I go, beautiful women will want and need me."
***POOF***
He was turned into a tampon. The moral of the story: If the government offers you anything, there's going to be a string attached.

HERE HE GOES AGAIN!

The following was taken from TMZ.COM

Angry much, Isaiah? Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington talked to Newsweek recently, and he rips the show for firing him because, in part, he's a black man "with a booming voice." Actually, let's let him explain: "It didn't help me on the set that I was a black man who wasn't a mush-mouth Negro walking around with his head in his hands all the time."Oh, and it doesn't stop there. Isaiah says an HR person told him that "some people" were "afraid" of him around the studio, to which he replied, "Why, because I'm a 6-foot-1 black man with dark skin and who doesn't go around saying 'Yessah, massa' and 'No sir, massa' to everyone?"

Thinking About Memphis

I am so down on Memphis so often, but really is it that bad? I could spend the next 2 hours writing about all of the terrible, horrible, awful things about Memphis. We all live here. We know all about them. BUT, what about the treasures. The hidden little nuggets. So here is a blog entry about the "good" things our city has to offer.

1. Beale Street: I'm not talking about the frat boy clubbin' and the ghetto-booty dancin' crap we all did back in college. Im' talking about a place to go sit, have a few beers, and listen to authentic blues music any night of the week. Beal Street is world famous and the blues are our connection to the rest of the world.

2. Live Theatre: I'm not the biggest live theatre person. I've been to a few plays. But when it comes to quality, Memphis really does a great job. Not only that Playhouse on the Square is about to break ground on a brand new 15 million dollar theatre in Midtown. This state of the art building will put Memphis on the map when it comes to community theatre. They will also be able to pay actors more and bring in more traveling performances. This is a real bragging point of our city.

3. Memphis Zoo: Yeah, you can only go to the zoo so many times before it becomes stale. But stop and think about it for a minute. We have one of the top 5 zoos in the country. Our pandas are about to do something that is so rare and amazing by having a baby. The Memphis Zoo really is a spectacle.

4. Fed Ex St. Jude Tennis/ St. Jude Golf: These are two premiere events that put the spotlight on Memphis. The golf tournament draws the top players from around the world and brings CBS coverage each year. The tennis tournament brings in an average of 3 top 10 players each year and always have a loaded field. These are awesome opportunities to see the world's best athletes.

5. The Tigers: Ok, the football Tigers may be a ways off, but the basketball Tigers are a projected top 3 team in the nation. Probably number 1 or 2. This is much see college hoops action.

Just my two cents. Thought I might give M-town some props for once.

Latest On Big Brother

In case you didn't hear the latest from Julie Chen last night on Letterman. She's rich. She goes on their yacht each summer and just cruises around with her husband and three step children. For those of you not in the know...he husband is Les Moonves, the head honcho at CBS. The big cheese. Like NO ONE ABOVE HIM.

Anyway, she also said that this year will be more interactive than ever. There will be 14 houseguests...but one of them will be America's houseguest. And we get to vote and chose what moves the player makes. We get to decide the player's strategy and actions. The other 13 players will have no idea.

The house will also look different this year also. There will be one room where all of the furniture and beds are tiny and another where they all huge. It will give it a bit of an Alice In Wonderland or Goldilocks feel.

I am so pumped about it. As you know my blog tends to lean towards Big Brother pretty heavily in the summer time, but I will do my best to post about other stuff as well.

Great Big Brother 8 News! Can't Wait!

Big Brother, After Dark launching on ShowtimeCome July 5, rabid fans of CBS's Big Brother will have a new way to spy on the show's sequestered houseguests: the eye will start airing live feeds from the house on one of its sister Showtime channels. Dubbed Big Brother, After Dark, the live action in the house will air every night from 12 p.m. to 3 a.m. on SHOTOO, a Showtime channel that airs mostly theatricals and adult flicks and is available in over 14 million homes. This is the first time the network has aired live feeds on TV, though they have been available via the internet since BB launched seven years ago. Also new for fans this summer: episodes will be available on CBS.com. The eighth season of Brother will air Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. And yes — host Julie Chen will be back.

Wasted Cash

Ok, so a magazine is paying 2 million dollars for photos of Eva Longoria's wedding. Man, if I could get 2 million bucks for shots of my wedding I'd be hitched for sure.

Madonna just bought her sixth London home. Yeah 6. Just in London. I mean come on. Maybe I understand six homes around the world, but 6 in the same city. Sounds like someone is trying to hide from Elton John if you ask me.

Germany Might Be On To Something...

Wow. Saw this on IMDB.COM
Finally someone is taking a stand against the faux religion of Scientology and calling it what it is...

Germany has banned filming of Tom Cruise's new movie at its military bases because they object to the actor's Scientology religion. Scientology is not recognized as a church by the German government, who claim the controversial religion is a "money-making cult." Cruise is set to begin filming Valkyrie in Germany this summer, in which he plays Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of an unsuccessful plot to kill Adolf Hitler during World War II. Harald Kammerbauer, spokesman for the country's Defense Ministry, says, "(Producers) will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult. In general, the Bundeswehr (German military) has a special interest in the serious and authentic portrayal of the events of July 20, 1944 and Stauffenberg's person." FROM IMDB

R U 4REAL?

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - New Zealand authorities have blocked a couple's bid to officially name their new son "4real," saying numerals are not allowed.

Pat and Sheena Wheaton said they decided to name their new baby "4real" shortly after having an ultrasound and being struck by the reality of his impending arrival.

"For most of us, when we try to figure out what our names mean, we have to look it up in a babies book and ... there's no direct link between the meaning and the name," Pat Wheaton told TV One on Wednesday. "With this name, everyone knows what it means."

But when the parents filed the name with New Zealand's Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages, they were told names beginning with a number were against the rules.

The government office has opened negotiations with the parents about the name under a policy that says all unusual names must be given case-by-case consideration.

"The name has not at this stage been rejected," Registrar-General Brian Clarke said in a statement Thursday. "We are currently in discussions with the parents ... to clarify the situation."

Clarke said the rules are designed to prevent names that are "likely to cause offense to a reasonable person." Satan and Adolf Hitler were proposed names that have been declined, he said.

If no compromise has been reached by July 9, the baby will be registered as "real," officials say.

New Zealand law requires all children born in the South Pacific nation to be registered with the Births, Deaths and Marriages registry within two months of birth.

The Grey's Topic

Ok, I am going to write a post here that will likely be pretty polarizing. If anyone has any comments and wants to post without using your name, I understand.
I am so sick of hearing about Washington's firing on Grey's Anatomy. First all of the gay community was up in arms over his "faggot" comment. And they fought to have him booted from the show.
But he apologized and the fire was dying down.
Then the dumb ass used the offensive term again, knowing it was STILL wrong. Making it worse still was the he used the comment while simultaneously denying that he had ever said the word in the first place. What in the hell was he thinking?
So the gay community was up in arms again. And the cast began to publicly turn on him, most notably Katherine Heigl.
ABC threatened to fire him. They issued statements.
But he apologized again. And he offered to take an anger management course. He also took tolerance classes. He then agreed to make tolerance PSAs for television.
So ABC made no other comment and the show went on.
BUT, somewhere along the way the choice was made to go ahead and write Washington off of the show. And Shonda did so in a classy and fitting way that gave great closure to the story and the character.
BUT somewhere in all of this I missed the point. I somehow missed that ABC had actually released Washington, not because he is a bigot, a hot head, has anger management issues, or that he caused a giant rift in the ensemble. Hell no, they fired him because he is black. HMMMM?
Well that's the latest coming out of L.A.
Apparently a leader from one of the gay rights organizations (who wanted Washington fired when he used the gay slur) is fighting for Washington's immediate reinstatement because the firing has now been deemed racist. Seriously.
Did I miss something? At what point did this become about race. Wait, how stupid of me. I forgot that its always about race. And ABC would never fire anyone who was a bad employee. They only fire people that are black. I mean they got rid of Michael and Walt, the two main black characters on Lost. That couldn't have had anything to do with the story line. It mist have been because Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindeloff couldn't dare work with black people one day longer.
I know that racism is rampant in our country. Hell, all over the world. And I do not condone it at all. But this is another case of what I call crutchism. When are people going to be held accountable for their actions and their lives and stop using their race as a crutch and an excuse? I for one am sick of it.

My intent here is not to offend. It is simply to beg the media, the activists, and the fans to let Dr. Burke ride off into the sunset. Let's quit fighting for this guy. It's apparent to me that he's a bad guy. He was obviously not sincere in his apologies. He even admitted that he "jumped through hoops" and "did everything ABC asked" and he was still released. That tells me that ehe was jumping through these hoops to keep his job, not because he wanted to make real amends.
The gay/race activist who is leading the charge for Washington's re-hire even went as far to say that Washington has done more for gay rights than T.R. Knight. How low down is that?
This whole thing has become a giant mess and I am sick and tired of hearing about it. I wish the new season would start already so that maybe people will be able to move on. Unfortunately something tells me this discussion is going to pop up in a big way again right around the time for the premiere.

Random Quick Hits

The new White Stripes album is exactly what you'd expect. There are three or four A level songs, a handful of good jams, and a couple of tunes that leave me scratching my head. If you're a Stripes fan this likely won't end up being your favorite offering from the red and black duo.
Grade: B-

The Closer season premiere was an excellent hour in summer television. Brenda Lee Johnson was back to her old self even throwing out a few "Bless Your Hearts" to a boy who had just lost his parents and sister in a brutal stabbing. Of course, she suspected the boy of being the killer. The Closer works perfectly int he time slot that it's in. Its straight forward mysteries would get lost in the fall shuffle. But when summer comes I always look forward to this one.
Premiere Grade: B+

Big Love has been back on for two weeks. I kept hearing critics complain about how the show was good, but always keeps the viewer at arms length. I don't really feel thats the case. I think it is just a concept so far from our own that we tend to not be able to put ourselves in the characters shoes. Last night they did a good job of changing that notion when the family forgets Nikki's anniversary. We've all done that before. The show has a good vibe to it and I like where it's headed.
Premiere Grade: B-
2nd Episode Grade: A-

Big Brother 8 is only 2 weeks away. I have been hearing some random rumors flying around about what the hook might be. The latest I heard was the possibility of bringing on people that were bullies in grade school and also bringing in the people that they bullied. Could be interesting.
I have read a lot of backlash about that idea though. I like it personally. It means the show comes with some built in strife which I think is good television. The people who are complaining about it were likely either bullied in school or have totally forgotten that they are watching trash tv and should stop trying to turn the Big Brother house into a church camp.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT

Who should be the new host of The Price Is Right? I've been hearing Rosie's name bounced around lately. Do you have any opinions?
Here is my list of the top 5 best candidates to fill Bob's shoes:

5. Arsenio Hall
4. Kathy Griffin
3. Dave Coulier
2. Dave Chapelle
1. William Shatner

Conan O'Brien is out of late late television and into Leno's spot in less than 2 years. NBC is already working hard to make sure the spot is filled with someone the world knows and loves. There is still a possibility that Leno could remain on as the host of the Tonight Show, leaving Conan 40 million dollars richer, but with no place to host. Who should fill Conan's chair? Well right now this minute the two leading faces are Jimmy Fallon and Jon Stewart. Who would I like to see, besides these two (Stewart would top my list here)

5. Jerry Seinfeld
4. Mitch Fatel
3. Crispin Glover
2. William Shatner
1. Charles Barkley

Forget Stripping, Just Stroll

A New York woman was awarded a 29,000 dollar settlement from NYC in a civil suit this week. The woman was arrested by police after being seen walking down the street topless in 2005. She was held for over 12 hours and forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation during her time in custody. No charges were filed.
She later sued the city based on a 1992 ruling that says women have the same right as men to go shirtless public. The city paid the settlement, but offered no admission of guilt.

My question is this...should this lady have the right to go topless in public? I want your opinion.

The Hokey Pokey: A Movie Review

I checked out Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer last night. Here are my thoughts:

-Better than the first one.

-Excellent action sequences.

-The Silver Surfer is badass.

-I couldn't get past the Silver Surfer's voice, I kept expecting him to say "Neo, you are the one."

-Jessica Alba cannot act. She was awful, but still awfully nice to look at.

-They worked hard to make Reed Richards more likable this time around. It worked.

-The writers made sure to hit you over the head with the moral of the story.

-The Human Torch is a perfect example of how a real person would act if they were give powers.

-The dialogue was comic-bookish and 1950ish all rolled into one. "Hurry grab the radioactive shutdown device. We must get to the next location before the Surfer." That bad, seriously.

For a summer movie this works on most levels. You won't see much plot development and the characters haven't really grown much from the last movie. But if you're looking for explosions and testosterone fueled action sequences, this is your ticket. If you enjoyed the first Fantastic 4 movie then you knwo what to expect here. If you didn't much care for the original, then you might want to stay away.

THE SUMMER TV PREVIEW

Returning Shows You Must Watch:

-The Closer: This fast paced, slow-talking show returns on June 18 for a new season. Kyra Sedgwick is well worth your time as long as you can get past her thick southern drawl.

-Kathy Griffin; My Life On The D- List: The comedienne is back on Tuesdays as the camera follow this truly hilarious woman as she struggles through her OH SO TOUGH life.

- The 4400: Returning Sunday June 17 for its fourth season. I wouldn't advice jumping into the middle of this show, but I would suggest Netflixing the first 3 seasons while TiVoing the 4th. This sci-fi show is promising major anwsers this season like "why did 4400 people disappear and then return to Earth with special abilities?"

-Big Love: Season 2 is underway on HBO. The move to Mondays might hurt the rating a bit, but the quality is just a high. I can't imagie having 3 wives and Bill Hendrickson might have 4 by the end of this new batch of episodes.

-Psych: This comedy/detective show is off-beat and fun. Retuning on Friday nights in July I suggest jumping on the bandwagon. Even after missing the first season you won't have any problem catching on to the gag.

Others of Note:
Monk (July 13) and Rescue Me (Wednesdays)

NEW SHOWS:
Burn Notice: This USA original kicks off June 28 and is all about an ex-spy trying to figure out who ruined his career by sending out a burn notice on him. Think Alias, but with a dude.

Damages: Glenn Close returns to FX after her stunning turn on The Shield 18 months ago. This time she's a legal shark with a dark past and a nasty habit of biting people's heads off. I can't wait. This one kicks off July 18.

Saving Grace: Holly Hunter stars in this show about a down on her luck Oklahoma City police officer who can't seem to balance her personal and professional lives. The catch, since she was involved in a drunk driving accident she has been followed by a guardian angel. This one kicks off on July 18 on TNT.

Meadowlands: Beginning on June 17, follow a family into the witness protection program. Showtime brings us this original series about suburban life on the run. This hidden family might discover that it's more dangerous in Middle America.

Two New Ones To Avoid:
John From Cincinnati: This new supernatural show from Deadwood creator David Lynch....I mean, David Milch, is about a surfer from Cincinnati who relocates to California. By the way he can levitate and might be Jesus. (JC...John Cincinnati or JC...Jesus Christ)

Hidden Palms: I gave the CW show a chance. It was a waste of my time. The eye candy is nice, but the plot is thin thin thin.

If Reality TV Is Your Thing:

Hey Paula and The Two Coreys both kick off this summer. Hey Paula is a Kathy Griffin's D-List style reality show featuring Paula Abdul. It's on Bravo starting June 28. The Two Coreys starts at the end of July on A&E and reunites Corey Feldman and Corey Haim. These two shows are soooo bringing back my past. I can't wait.

Other Reality Shows:
Pirate Master
America's Got Talent
Hell's Kitchen
The Next Big Thing
The Biggest Loser
Last Comic Standing

And My Favorite Show:

Big Brother 8 premieres on CBS July 5. A whole new house of crazy people!!! Count me in!

Finale Rankings

Now that all of the finales are done (except for One Tree Hill) it's time to post my ranking of the top 10 best season/series finales and the 5 worst. If OTH happens to make the BEST list then I will make sure to amend my posting ASAP.

THE BAD
5. The Sopranos
4. Veronica Mars
3. October Road
2. Heroes
1. Two and a Half Men

THE GOOD
10. Boston Legal
9. Grey's Anatomy
8. Brothers and Sisters
7. House
6. Desperate Housewives
5. The Office
4. The Shield
3. How I Met Your Mother
2. Smallville
1. LOST

The Sopranos Finale

I wanted to go ahead and throw my two cents into the big Sopranos backlash. What we seem to have here is a case of double-backlash. I will explain in due time.

Each season The Sopranos follows a familiar pattern. There is the long build-up featuring Tony and whatever organization, person, or family he is fighting with during that period of time. And this build-up leads to a violence-filled, explosive next-to-last episode of the season. And then as we reach the finale of each season it's as if the air has been let out of the balloon a bit too early.

Alan Sepinwall said it best on his blog when he deduced that David Chase uses the season finales as a time of reflection.

So, why did so many fans expect something different this time? Was it because it was the final episode ever? I guess...but how quickly the average fan forgets last weeks episode in which Bobby and Sil were gunned down. It was probably the best episode ever. The episode, titled "The Blue Comet" was probably my favorite one ever.

So my guard was up going into the finale. I fully expected a let down. The fact that Chase treated us to Phil Leotardo's skull crushing death was an added bonus. Yes, the abrupt ending had me checking online immediately to see if my TiVo had blinked, but I felt like I had been paid off enough.

The final scene was perfect in so many ways. The family sitting around the table eating. If the Soprano family did anything right, it was eat. Tony spent over half of his scenes during the run of the show at the dinner table or in his kitchen. This was the only place to end the series. The suspense that Chase built was monumental. My heart was racing and I was even forced to sit up in my bed. No, he didn't pay off that suspense, but he couldn't because he was trying to prove a point.

And that leads me to the double backlash. No one feels more frustrated to have been a Sopranos fan than me, but I know that I am not alone. Sometimes waiting between seasons for over a year was too much to deal with. It wasn't fair at all. The excruciating time between episodes was worse than going 7 months each year without football. But because the show was so amazing and we loved the characters so much we always came back to HBO when the Soprano family came back. We were loyal to David Chase to a fault. I even excused the episode titled "Christopher," which was the worst episode of any show in the history of television. It was this loyalty that lead to so many fans feeling like the reward of such patience was going to be the ultimate payoff, whether it be Tony's death, his entrance into witness protection, or him being sent off to jail.

Not being paid off with anything other than "life goes on, Tony may die, he may go to jail, or he may live happily ever after" has created a huge wave of anger.

But that's only half of the backlash. The other involves David Chase. He wanted to end this show after 5 seasons. He has taken Tony and the gang as far as he wanted. But HBO wasn't ready to seem them go. The fans cried and showed their outrage. So Chase was given more money and he was ultimately talked into staying. But this was no longer on his own terms. And by ending the show so ambiguously he managed to get one final "fuck-you" off to HBO, The Fans, and the actors that begged him to let the show live. Basically he said "you mess with my family, you pay." What a perfect ending after all.

Some Quick Hits

- The new Smashing Pumpkins song is underwhelming at best. I didn't have high expectations to begin with given the quality of their most recent releases, but I did hold out a bit of hope that their early magic would be recaptured. This is not the case. I likely won't purchase the album. GRADE: C-

- The new Velvet Revolver single is pretty catchy. It's definitely Scott Weiland on vocals. The song doesn't stick its claws in you and make you want to listen to it over and over again like say "sex type thing" or "welcome to the jungle." Its just a tune that you might turn up if you're driving in your car. Grade: B

- The new Marilyn Manson cd is boring. I'm so disappointed. There are no anthems, no sing-alongs, and barely anything worthy of being called rock. I saw recently that Manson was referred to as The Last Rock Star, but with disappointments like this being put out it sounds like he's just hiding behind the make-up. Grade: C-

- I saw the movie Night At The Museum last night. It was pretty ok. For a Christmastime release/family affair I could certainly see the appeal. There were a few too many common plot devices for my liking, but I expected as much. Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt was the best part of the flick. Grade: B-

- Mr. Brooks was an entertaining flick. A bit off-kilter and slightly convenient, but still worth seeing. Costner and his visible conscience make for a funny and disturbing combination. Dane Cook playing is straight was a bit of a strecth. I say NetFlix It! Grade: B-

NBA Finals Prediction

I know, I said I wasn't going to watch the NBA anymore...But that starts next season. Right now Lebron James is trying to fill Michael Jordan's sneakers and I wouldn't miss it for the world.
This series should be tight. The scores will hang in the mid to upper eighties. Cleveland's defense is sometimes over looked, but I assure you the Spurs will have a more difficult time getting past the Cavs than they did against the Suns.
That being said, the Jazz were a good team on both ends of the floor and they got run out of town. While rookie Daniel Gibson has stepped it up in the post season he wont be able to cover Parker or Manu. Big Z won't play man up against Duncan either, leaving that task to either floppy haired dude (wont try to butcher the spelling of his name) or Drew Gooden. And why the hell have his teammates not asked him to shave that atrocity on the back of his head. That modified rat-tail is down right nasty lookin'.
Hair cuts aside here is my prediction. The home court advantage outweighs the momentum that the Caves have. I say:

TOP NEWS STORIES

- Paris Hilton checked into jail late last night. Thank God Lohan just got out of rehab or half of L.A.'s nightclubs might have gone out of business.

- Billy Donnovan has apparently changed his mind about coaching in the NBA. That's good news for Gator fans, now they don't have to endure the heartbreak of not stealing John Calapari away from the Tigers.

- Lou Pinella got thrown out of a game over the weekend. It's his first ejection as the Cubs manager. If the Cubs can't win at least they can keep putting on shows like this for the fans.

- Serena Williams is the only remaining American player left at the French Open. She's looking to be the first American man to win in the past several years.

- Battlestar Galactica is going off the air after next season. Thank God. I'm so tired of having to pretend to only kind of like this show so that my friends will still like me.

- Pirates of the Caribbean 3 was number one at the box office again this weekend. It shows that kids drive movie ticket sales. I think Superman's next villain should be Davie Jones.

What's Bugging You?

Movie Review: BUG

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS

Let me first begin with my internal conflict. I absolutely hate when a preview gives too much away...The movie Perfect Stranger with Bruce Willis and Halle Berry...not going to see it. I saw it in trailer form BEFORE I saw Fracture. It showed enough for me to figure out most of the movie.

On the flip side, if a movie trailer doesn't give enough away you can get caught in a situation like I was several years ago with The Thin Red Line. I thought that I was going to see a war movie and instead saw the most boring piece of crap ever.

Well, now it seems like there is an amazing THIRD side to this tale. A movie trailer that shows you one thing and delivers something completely different. I got the first taste of this with the movie Hostel. They promised a gruesome gore-filled horror movie...they delivered a soft core porn with a touch of blood.

Well, add to that mislead the movie BUG. What I thought I was going to see was a horror flick about a couple of people that get infected with some sort of bug that lurks just below the skin and makes you want to tear your epidermis from the rest of your flesh.

What they delivered was an over-written, drama-filled gab fest with not one single scary moment. The movie was layer upon layer of dialogue with nothing ever being said.

Now, let me ruin the movie for those of you who aren't planning on seeing it...if you are planning on seeing it either stop reading here and go see for yourself or keep reading ahead and just give me 8.50 for saving you the time.

How do I say this without offending everyone...Ashley Judd is a quasi-lesbo, white trash, bar-tender who has been married to a horrible man, had a child with said horrible man, and now lives alone counting down the days before this terrible man is released from prison.

I call her a quasi-lesbo because her best friend is a lesbian she and Ashley Judd seem a little closer than they should be. However, it is cleared up early on that the friend has a lover and they are adopting a child. Ashley appears to just be a homely looking whoremonger.

I call her white trash because she lives in a run down motel-apartment in the middle of nowhere. Kinda looked like the place Luke Wilson stayed in Vacancy.

So, lesbian friend introduces Ashley to a new man. This dude is a FREAK. Weird and anti-social with some very serious mental issues. The kind of guy we all avoid on the street. And before long he and Ashley are doing the nasty.

Well, lets see. The first 45 minutes we hear no mention of bugs. Plenty of talking...no mention of bugs.

So the two have finished their business and the lights are off and suddenly Freak dude jumps out of bed and screams that he's been bitten. More talking. And More Talking. ZZZZZZZ.

Eventually we get into the freak dude's back story. He's ex military and we was injected with some soft of virus that lives in his blood. And he went AWOL. Immediately I say to myself, this dude is a paranoid psychotic.

So the movie wears on and the dude sees more bugs...we don't see them, mind you. And Then Ashley see bugs. And then they begin ripping each other's skin off and talking about it. And Then they pull teeth out and they talk about that. And then they wrap the whole house in bug traps and talk about that. And finally they cover the walls with foil to stop the spread of the bugs to others and the keep the bug's transmissions from reaching outerspace.

And finally Ashley Judd comes to the realization that she is THE SUPER MOTHER BUG. So she talks about being the super mother bug. And she screams about it. And then she stands up on the bed, arms stretched out and declares herself the SUPER MOTHER BUG...And so they pour gas on one another and light matches and the movie ends.

I shit you not, this movie was so terrible that I can't do anything but ruin for others in an attempt to keep it from making any more money. And the scaries part of all...60 percent of all critics liked it. WHAT!!!

Dawson's Orange County Housewives

Another meaningless teen show. Another attempt to relive the glory days of 90210 and Melrose Place. Me getting sucked in yet again...But I'm fighting it. I am.

Last night the CW premiered a new show called Hidden Palms. Basically it's The O.C. crossed with Dawson's Creek, with a touch of Desperate Housewives thrown in. Not a bad recipe for success in most cases.

The premise...smart kid Johnny (totally doesn't look like or act like a Johnny) is just like any other book worm teen, until the night that his dad comes home drunk, again, and blows his brains out right in front of him. So, Johnny goes off the deep-end, becomes a teenage alcoholic, and begins to throw his life away.

Slutty mom remarries and the new clan moves to picture perfect palm beach. (Here is the Ryan Atwood, fish-out-of water twist).

Johnny makes friends quickly. Here is the next O.C. connection; Johnny is played by Taylor somebody or other, best known as psycho-Marissa lovin' Oliver from The O.C. His first new friend and neighbor is the guy from The O.C. who played Zach, Seth's comic-book lovin' friend and eventual boyfriend of Summer.

Then throw in the sexy girl who holds a hint of mystery. Picture Marissa crossed with Peyton from One Tree Hill. Johnny is intrigued by her, she is intrigued by him, but nothing is as easy as it seems.

Hot mysterious girl has a history with Johnny's new neighbor friend. And it is an ugly history. So bad that they have a full on love-hate relationship...and whatever caused this rift also seems to have caused the death of one of their old friends, Eddie. What happened to Eddie seems to be the big hook for this 8 episode trial run.

Now, the Dawson's Creek...A shy, cute, book worm girl lives across the street. She's definitely Joey Potter. She even swipes her hair away behind her ear on a regular basis as she smiles out the side of her mouth.

The show was created by and is written by Dawson's mastermind Kevin Williamson. So the comparisons are likely to keep coming.

Like The O.C., parents seem to play a large role in the happenings. Each character, besides Greta (mysterious, pretty girl), has shady parents with lots of skeletons in the closet. These stories unfold in the background of the teen angst.

What I liked:

The main character Johnny is a good actor. He is likable and I developed a soft spot for him quickly. I was always a fan of Oliver on The O.C. so I hope that some of that snotty side gets to come out.

I like the other teen characters as well. Greta isn't quite as mysterious as they want her to be, but she's every bit as tortured as Peyton Sawyer.

The mystery is catchy, but it might end up being cliched. A real twist is needed to make me keep watching.

What I disliked:

The adults. All of them are one dimensional, cookie-cutter, stand-ups. They are all despicable people and none of them seem to have a redeeming quality. If they get too much air time it could be bad news.

And they are totally wasting the talents of Sharon Lawrence in the role of neighbor boy's plastic surgery lovin' mom. She is pure evil, I have no doubt. And hopefully she will be more adequately used as the show moves forward.

Pilot Grade: B-

Will I keep watching...ask me next week.

Creepies: Best Shows and Worst Shows

The best and worst of the television season. These rankings are based on the entire season and not representative of any one episode. Reality shows are not eligible. These are not my FAVORITE SHOWS, these are my opinions on the best series for the 2006-2007 season.
THE WORST:

05. Nip/Tuck
04. Two And A Half Men

03. Rules of Engagement
02. CSI: Miami
01. 24

THE BEST:
15. Desperate Housewives
14. Heroes

13. My Name Is Earl

12. Scrubs

11. Battlestar Galactica

10. Veronica Mars

09. Boston Legal

08. Grey's Anatomy

07. The Sopranos

06. The Office

05. The Shield

04. Brothers and Sisters

03. Lost

02. How I Met Your Mother

01. House

More Creepies: BEST NEW SHOW

This television season featured a slight change in the way the networks think people watch TV. They cut back on the serials...except for The Nine, Vanished, and Kidnapped. And instead they brought us amazing characters, stories with something more at stake than a single crime being solved, and flashes of why this is the golden era of television.

Here are my awards for Best New TV Shows

5. 30 Rock
I must admit that I don't really watch this show. I have seen 3 episodes. Two were very funny and one wasn't so much so. But any show that can make Alec Baldwin relevant again is going to gain some props from me. It was a toss-up between this show and Friday Night Lights for the 5th spot. I went with 30 Rock because FNL just got buried on...Friday Nights.

4. Jericho
I'm sad that this show was canceled. I feel like it's Invasion all over again. A great show with so much left to tell. Skeet Ulrich was the show's biggest surprise.

3. Ugly Betty
Colorful characters, lots of diversity, and plenty of funny. This show would have been the talk of the town if had been delivered a season earlier or held until mid-season this year. Instead it has gotten lost in the shuffle behind the top two shows on this list.

2. Heroes
A show that failed in consistency, but made up for it in originality and creativity. The BOOM at the end was more a fizzle, but Heroes is still going to live on as a great series.

1. Brothers and Sisters
A show that relies so heavily on political viewpoints and family strife is a hard sell. Add Sally Field, Ron Rifkin, and Calista Flockhart and you have the recipe for a great show. Rob Lowe added a breath of fresh air halfway through the season and then Emily VanCamp pushed it over the finish line. Watch this show if you aren't already!

THE CREEPIES...TV SEASON AWARDS

This is my favorite time of the year. My annual TV awards. Since I used to go by the moniker TV CREEP, we'll call the awards the Creepies. Awards will be given out for best acting, best actressing (yeah, I said it), best show for the entire season, best finale, and best new show. Since all of the finales haven't landed yet I will hold off on that until the last episode of The Sopranos, The Shield, and One Tree Hill have aired.

But we can get on with the rest.

Best Actress on TV Show, comedy or drama.

5. Sandra Oh (Yang)- Grey's Anatomy
The high strung intern has always been an intriguing character, but the closing minutes
of this season sealed the deal for her making the list.

4. Jaime Pressly (Joy)- My Name Is Earl
She might not have Oscar-caliber acting chops, but she can bring you to tears in a heartbeat with her perfect timing and zesty zing.

3. Edie Falco (Carmela)- The Sopranos
The first lady of the family business; we ache with her as she deals with the loss of friends
and the constant threat of losing her family.

2. Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliete)- Lost
Has any character been more polarizing? I've loved her, hated her, and loved her again. She is truly a mystery among mysteries.

1. Sally Field (Nora)- Brothers and Sisters
She is absolutely wonderful. Both stern in her political views and so lovable when it
comes to protecting her family. She deserves an Emmy, no doubt.

Honorable Mentions: Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) Calista Flockhart (Brothers and Sisters) Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) and Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy)

Best Actor on a TV Show Comedy or Drama

5. Steve Carell (Michael) - The Office
He isn't close to likable. He's not even the funniest character. But he manages to bring you back each week for more cringe-worthy scenes.

4. Michael Chiklis (Vic)- The Shield
He's sooooo bad, but you still find a way to root for him. That takes skill.

3. William Shatner (Denny) - Boston Legal
Yeah, THAT William Shatner. Makes me laugh every week...I think it's the mad cow.

2. Walton Goggins (Shane)- The Shield
He's the new face of evil and no one has given a more tortured performance this season.

1. Hugh Laurie (House)- House
Mr. Cranky Pants is the best character on television right now.

Honorable Mentions: James Spader (Boston Legal) James Gandolfini (The Sopranos) Zack Braff (Scrubs) and Michael Emerson (Lost)

1. Gillian Welch from Nashville, Tn The folky female version of some dude named Oberst

NBA Sucks

I think that last night was the last straw for me and the NBA. Here are the 10 reasons why I am done with NBA (except for fantasy)...

10. The NBA playoff seeding format.
09. The lack of balance in power between teams and conferences
08. The Memphis Tigers are much more exciting
07. All of the fucking whiny babies
06. The NBA lottery format sucks. Shouldn't the league want bad teams to get better?
05. The Spurs and Pistons going to the finals...again
04. The Spurs and Pistons getting special treatment
03. Michael Jordan no longer plays
02. The micro-managing commish
01. Inconsistency of NBA Officials

LOST

The Lost finale is just a short time away and I can hardly contain myself. I am overcome with absolute anxiety and an anxious pitter in my stomach. Anyone else feel this way?
What do I expect...
-Atleast one MAJOR death. (I expect several deaths in the big battle, but atleast one major)
-Locke to return from the grave
-Desmond to reveal what he truly envisioned with his little flash!
-A twist that will change the show forever.

I really expect Lost to be different next year. And I think that this is a good thing. I bet either the setting will be different or the goal of the survivors will be different or I could even see them changing the way the flashbacks are used. Either way I hope that this episode can be a catalyst for the last 48 episodes...and I also hope that the first hour and 55 minutes aren't all boring and just the last 5 minutes are good. That would suck.

Heroes, The Office

Heroes went out with more pop then boom. I kept hearing about the amazing finale and then what we got was more a water pistol fight than a nuclear explosion. Several characters lives hang in the balance. A new big bad is expected to emerge. And Sylar is still alive and kicking. Which means this season really only accomplished one thing...they stopped the bomb. Which I guess is good, but where does that leave us? Hiro is in 17th century Japan and from what I hear he will be there a while. Parkman is likely not dead, but D.L. is more than likely gone. Nikki/Jessica have merged and her character is now one dimensional and pretty boring. Molly has a pretty amazing gift and I'm sure she will be key in what happens next year. Peter and Nathan will likely be back too...For a show that had gained so much steam I feel like we took a giant step backwards tonight creatively. I'm not sure this show will be on my "must-see" list next year.

The Office meanwhile had everything you could want from a finale. Break-ups, firing, and a twist. While Ryan getting the corporate job might not be the biggest twist of the finale season it was certainly unexpected and likely will provide a very new point of view for everyone in Scranton. The temp is now the boss and Michael isn't going to like that very much. And Jim asking Pam out was a bit premature I guess, since Karen didn't get the job. So how will she handle it all. My guess, she quits to head up another show...but that's just a guess. HA.

I know with a finale like The Office there will be a lot of differing opinions. Let me know what you thought of the episode.

More Finales (With Spoilers)

House: This show went out with a great episode, but not really a cliffhanger. I mean we are still in lingo over Foreman, but no one thinks that he is leaving the show and I suspect we will see this storyline tied up early next season. The medical mystery was one of my favorites of the season.

Desperate Housewives: Easily the most shocking closing for any show so far...I suspect that will change this Wednesday night, but for now...it was great. Edie is one of my least favorite characters, but always one of the most entertaining story lines. I loved the Susan and Mike wedding. I loved the Bree return and the twist with the baby, but this isn't the 50's and I don't get the need to hide Danielle's pregnancy. I hope Felicity Huffman gets to show her acting chops next season with the cancer fight. And Gaby and Carlos together again is GREAT news for this show. A fun, drama filled hour.

Grey's Anatomy: Lots of lingering questions. What's up with George. I assume he repeats the program and be the link to keep Meredith's sister and the new interns in the mix of the main story. Is Burke gone? I doubt it...but he should be. This is the perfect place to have him end his run on the show. Yang is now free and they should move on. Bailey was totally dissed and she better get her due credit when the show comes back. I am loving that Callie is the new Chief Resident, but I hate that it came at Bailey's expense.

Can't wait to see Heroes tonight. More finale reviews to come!

How I Met Your Mother

Marshall and Lilly are probably not going to live happily ever after...where there is no situation, there is no comedy. But, with Marshall and Lilly having the opportunity to reconsile this season and end with the exchanging of vows, I think the show is at its best with that couple are at their best.
The twist ending was above average too for a sitcom. Usually on a half hour show someone finds out that they are pregnant or someone has a heart attack or someone breaks up...So, why was Ted and Robin's break-up so different...because there were subtle, but unassuming signs all season that this would happen...and that it happened cleanly and quietly makes it that much more amazing.
The show wasn't incredibly funny, minus Barney's paranoia that his life as he knew it was over, but it was sweet and sincere and that's where this show tends to get its best mileage.

I hope next season we get to see more of Ted and Barney on the town. And I hope that we get to see some of the funny side of marriage from M & L. The married couple sitcom is old and if anyone can bring something fresh to the table, it's HIMYM.

Finale Grade: B+

Two and a Half Men

Each year I like to grade each of the finales, rank them, and then sit back and anticipate the next season. So I am getting that started today with a brief review of the 2 1/2 Men finale.

Never in my life have a seen a sitcom finale be more forced, boring, or lame. Seriously, I would rather have watched a documentary on the bowel movements of migrating birds.

There was only one funny joke in the entire episode and even that was only sort-of funny. Viagra jokes, bathroom humor, and rancid "mom is satan" jokes filled the half hour. The show left no cliffhangers and left me with no desire to come back to the show next fall.
Undoubtedly I will come back, because the show is usually pretty funny. But I cannot imagine what Chuck was thinking when he penned this episode. I guess he was more worried about his new show being picked up than about his cash cow on the eye network.

So, long story short, this show will not be making the best finale of 2007 list. And if it had been a top 10 show for 2007 overall (which it wasn't) it would have been knocked clean off the list after that stinker.

Grade: F

Other finale reviews to come: How I Met Your Mother, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, My Name Is Earl, Lost, Veronica Mars, Heroes, CSI, The Shield, The Sopranos, and more...Stay Tuned.

How To Be Cool

I wanted to give a shout out to Johanna real fast. Her new book How To Be Cool hits shelves on June 5th. You can order it on Amazon.com right now! It's only 15 bucks and the book is hard cover. I just started reading it and I love it. Also, Jo will be having a book signing on June 12 at 6 PM and would love for all of you to come.

Description: The national bestselling author of The Next Big Thing and Your Big Break presents her coolest novel yet. After shedding seventy pounds, Kylie found a new career transforming the socially inept from geek to chic. Her classes on How to Be Cool are Chicago's hottest ticket. But Kylie's still a dork at heart, and she'd die before she let her clients in on her overweight, nerdy past. Things start to unravel when Kylie's apartment burns down and she's forced to shack up with her parents. Making matters worse, there's a journalist shadowing her every move. The last thing Kylie needs is someone uncovering her dirty little secret... no matter how sexy he may be. Now, with her life spiraling out of control, the weight she fought so hard to lose is starting to creep back on. But with the help of her best friend Ruby, a confident plus-sized model, Kylie's starting to learn that appearances aren't everything-and that being the queen of cool isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Early Review:

Returning from Your Big Break and The Next Big Thing, Edwards tracks Chicago-based image consultant Kylie Chase. Having been an overweight outcast in high school, Kylie works to save others from her younger self's fate: she talks one client out of wearing a Star Wars costume on a first date and keeps another from starring in a porno. But Kylie's deep dark secret is that she still imagines herself as a high school pudgette, and when hunky journalist Ty Benedict is assigned to cover her career, Kylie has to face the real person behind the carefully constructed image. Lame affirmations ("You are exactly who you think you are") and corny one-liners are less than cool, but Edwards makes Kylie's voice immediate and winning as she puts her through her success-doubt-success paces. Lost...Is It Wednesday Yet?

How Lost got its groove back. Is it just me or does Lost really feel like Lost again? I would give every episode since the Jack tattoo episode at least a B and most would be an A. Last week's episode with Jacob would be the 2nd A+ with the other A+ being awarded to Desmond's kooky time-travel flashback.

Best moments from last night's Charlie-centric episode:

-Sayid getting up in Jack's face, tellin' him like it is.

-Alex hinting that she knows Ben might not be her father.

AND

-Last night, though, they got me. I was expecting one of three outcomes: 1)Desmond's vision comes true to the letter, with Charlie saving the day and dying; 2)Charlie dies in failure, because the show is just that bleak sometimes; 3)Charlie succeeds and yet somehow manages to make it back up in time. I sure as hell wasn't predicting that he'd be besieged by some underwater commandos. Are they Others/Hostiles? Dharma? Something else entirely? From Sepinwall.blogspot.com:

I couldn't have thought it better myself. This is right on track with where my mind was last night.

Other thoughts:

-Is Desmond telling Charlie the truth? Is Desmond going to be getting on that chopper and not Claire? Claire could just be Desmond's device to motivate Charlie into action.

-Was Bernard brought back to be killed off?

-Jin can shoot? I'm not surprised, but I have a strong suspicion we might be finding out more about that in the future.

- Nadia, Sayid's true love was the woman being robbed when Charlie saved the day.

-Was the day Desmond ran into Charlie singing Wonderwall the same day that he saved Nadia? Charlie was wearing different clothes, so I'm not sure...but I think it is significant. This might be a way to show us that the timelines are/have been disrupted.

Every semi-spoiler site that I visit swears that you MUST NOT read any spoilers for the finale. And every one of them says that reading a spoiler will spoil all the fun. So I am guessing this major twist is going to be bigger than just a major character or 3 dying. I mean what fun is death?

The biggest question of all though is this...Why did Jack make the entire gang trek out to the jungle to show the trees being blown up? Why the demonstration or did the show just need to waste a few special FX bucks? Is Jack still withholding some kind of secret? Does he know more than he is letting on? Why do I feel like he and Juliette are still playing everyone?

Your thoughts?
