Sorry I have been so bad about blogging lately. I will be back into the habit very soon, I promise. Big Brother has been very good the last two weeks and some of the things that transpired have made for a big change in the power rankings.

Amber is a cry baby and won't win. She would have Dustin and Jameka's vote in the final two, but that's it. I don't think he will make it, but I wanted to show the guy some respect and bump him up a bit for a week.

Hey Now
Haven't written the past couple of days. Some of you know why. I won't spell it out on here, but if you'd like to know, ask. It's not a big deal and it's not personal. Its just been a little tough to get online lately. I will do my best to keep it regular on here, I swear.
Hey, if Eric goes home on Big Bro tonight then I will not be happy. In fact I may just stop writing about it on here at all because I might not be watching the show tonight. CBS has seriously screwed the pooch on this one. I think there is going to be a huge backlash if a stupid banner sends Eric home.
What's with this heat? Did I fall asleep and wake up in New Orleans or something. Richard visited last week and I think he brought this shit back with him. Its too hot and I want it to be winter.

Ving Rhames' Dogs Kill Man
Normally this wouldn't be huge news. Dog attacks are pretty common. But there are two reasons that I am putting this on my blog. First of all, the publicity surrounding Michael Vick makes every dog story stand out. But the other is that the dogs that killed the man were mastiffs. Just like Brutus. So much for the gentle giant theory huh.
The details are still coming in, but apparently Rhames had four mastiffs and they attacked one of Rhames' handlers. The handler was the staffer responsible for the upkeep of the animals. It is not known what, if anything, caused the dogs to go on the offensive. Either way it is a very scary story and if you are mean to me I will get Brutus to come and lick you to death.

The Top 25 ESPN Coaches Poll for the 2007 football season has just been released. While I don't completely agree with the rankings I think that the top two teams are indisputable, but NOT SO FAST as Corso might say. Michigan is going to have a say-so in this thing.

Chris O'Donnell Has a Great Idea
Chris O'Donnell is starring in a new "limited" series that starts this week. The show will run for six hour long episodes. What he wants to do next is what's really interesting. He would like to be on a 24 hour series. No, not the show 24. He would like to be on a show that has 24 episodes. One season. And then the show is over. And the story is told. The End.
He thinks this idea would open up several doors. First it would bring in some top named actors who otherwise wouldn't consider a television show. Secondly it would allow fans of the show to have closure sooner rather than later. He used Lost as an example of a show that never really gives any closure. He also believes that the storytelling would be tighter and the story arcs more creative if there was a real end in sight for writers.
I believe the guy might be on to something. I certainly don't want all television shows to go this way. I think that would basically end the golden age that television has been experiencing the last five years or so. But I think the idea is great because it certainly would open itself to a larger viewing audience. One that may tune in to a story if they know there is a beginning, middle, and end.

BIG BROTHER POWER RANKINGS # 3
I am writing this with no knowledge of who won HoH. I intentionally didn't watch the showtime show last night because I didn't want to spoil it for anyone. Therefore these rankings are based solely on my perception of who has power in the house and who has one foot already out the door.
Kail and Jen should be the bottom two, but they aren't. Why? Well they have bother managed to be nominated the last two weeks and both of them have managed to make it through. So their cat like lives give them a slight edge over Zach, whose only friend just got booted out last night.
Daniele remains near the top right now because she still has Dick protecting her, BUT, and this is a BIG BUT, if Jen or Kail get HoH for this week then Dick and Daniele could easily both be on the block again. She isn't int he top spot anymore though because her biggest alliance in the house just got sent packing.
Eric has managed to play the game and stay under the radar. Jessica has stayed under the radar, but isn't really playing the game. But neither of them are a target and that is why they head the rankings this week. Jameka finally took a step out into the spotlight this week, but it was a negative light in which she is basking in. The whole "God has the game all figured out" thing is enough to scare some people and might put a bullseye on her back.
The biggest mystery right now is this: How does the house feel about Amber and all of the crying? Do they think she's sweet and want to keep her around or are they tired of the constant water works and eventually want to get rid of her? This is why she finds herself in the middle of the pack right now.
And Holly, I hate to say I told you so, but Nick was in last place on the last power rankings for a reason. He was just caught between a rock and a hard place and we too big of a threat to too many people. I hope you find a new favorite player!

May I Ramble?
Been in one of those moods the last few days. I don't know if it's because Jason just moved out and I am adjusting to living alone or what. Something strange is certainly going on in my brain. Hell, something strange is going on everywhere. Here it is, August, and the Chicago Cubs are in first place. What other signs do you need?
I feel like I am at that point where I just need a major change. The last few times I felt like this I ended up moving. That's not really an option at this point, but if it were I'd have to strongly consider it. I don't hate Memphis like I used to, but a different flavor might be refreshing for a while.
I have one friend who is such a habit maker. She has a set routine and she follows it precisely. I admire her for that. But I couldn't live like that. I have another friend who is a bit of a free spirit. Easy come, easy go. She looks for adventure and takes it by the horns. It's a refreshing way to live, but one that I have never been able to bring myself to. I like control too much and if I am just going the way the wind takes me then I feel out of control. So am I really stuck somewhere in the middle?
One thing that I've noticed is that I get more like this in the summer than any other time of the year. They say that most people are effected by the winter time, but I know that the summer is harder on me. I don't enjoy summertime at all. Never have. I like cold weather, football, winter clothes, AND TWINS. Did I mention that the Cubbies are in first place.
Man, Brutus is growing like crazy. I need to take him to be weighed. If I had to guess I would say 80-85 pounds. He turned 6 months old yesterday. I once heard of someone referring to their dog as "my little slice of Heaven". I'm pretty attached to Brutus, but if I ever refer to him as my little slice of Heaven please load me up in the car and drop me off at Backstreet.
I had a great birthday. First I got to spend the day with my family. I had my favorite meal, lots of drinks, and a ton of fun. Beth and I went up and swam and visited. Good Times. I then came back and went out with some friends to RP Tracks. I had way too much to drink (thanks steph, beth, and justin). I enjoyed just hanging out with everyone. I got some pretty great gifts too. The most interesting gift was from Katrina and Holly. They got me the electronic version of catchphrase. Can we say game night? But that wasn't the most interesting thing. The interesting thing was a bottle of foamy soap from one of those smell good body places. (The name slips my mind) Anyway, Katrina has a bottle in her bathroom and every time I have tried to use the stuff it shoots straight out and onto my shirt. Maybe I'm a moron. Maybe I'm stronger than I think. But either way, the stuff smells good, whether it's on my shirt or my hands. So I think it is officially the girliest gift I have ever gotten, but it stands proudly in my bathroom.
I am worried that I may have ruined a great movie for myself. I have been waiting in such high anticipation for the new movie Superbad. But my expectations are so high that I am scared to death that I am going to be disappointed. Either way, mark August 17th on your calendars. I want to get a huge ass group of people together to go see it. Even if I walk away being disappointed I will always have the memory of the first time I saw the trailer and how I almost laughed myself right out of my seat.
Anyway, with the Cubs in first and the summer dog days upon us I think I am going to try to write more posts like this. I like taking a few minutes every so often and just writing about what's going on. For those of you coming to game night Saturday night I think you're going to have a great time. Memphis Shows
Man, thanks to the new Snowden Grove Amphitheater the Memphis/North Mississippi area has been flooded with good shows. I think this is great for the region. Starwood, the huge amphitheater in Nashville, was recently shut down and this has really helped bring some good shows to the Mid-South. The fact that Snowden is pulling in shows also means that Mud Island has some serious competition and will likely begin trying to book more big ticket acts.

NFL Preseason Power Rankings
Ok, so the preseason hasn't officially started. There are still 6 more days until that happens. But I can't hold it any longer. I have to jump in here and start blogging about some football. I know most of my loyal readers don't care, but a few (Rich and Paymon) do. So this is for them!!!
Here is how I have the Power Ranking as of today. I will adjust it each week after mulling over some preseason games. The top team is who I have as my most likely to win the Superbowl and it goes down to least likely. (Sorry Raider Fans)

I think that the Tampa Bay Bucs are ready to break out and with Atlanta in turmoil this could be a great chance for them to make some noise in the NFC South. I think the Rams and 49ers are going to be right there with Seattle. I also think that Seattle could fall as far as 3rd in that division.
I think that the Panthers will be much imporved this year and they tend to have an up year and then a down. So we will keep an eye on that.
The Redskins are pretty low, but they have the talent to be in the top 5. Will Gibbs get them there? That remains to be seen.
I think the Colts are still the best in the AFC South, but watch out for Jacksonville. The Titans are likely going to take a step back this year. And Leftwich has something still to prove. So the Jags could make some noise.
But if I had to chose the Super Bowl match up right now...I'd say Saints and Patriots. That may change by next week.

The Simpsons
Did you hear? The Simpsons movie raked in over 71 million dollars this past weekend. The "experts" predicted 60 million. I had my guess set around 45 million. I thought that they were waaaay over shooting it. But Homer and Bart managed to ride past even the most lofty expectations.
I am sure a sequel will be in the works. And I would bet that this bodes well for the future of the television series. And when the series does end I would guess that some life might remain in a string of motion picture releases.
That all being said, The Simpsons have now officially cemented itself as one of the true icons of our generation.

Star Trek News
At Comic-Con yesterday the Abrams panel did confirm that Zachary Quinto, (Sylar on Heroes) is officially playing Spock in the new Trek movie. Nimoy will also appear as the older version his iconic character. I'm digging this casting news. I know most of you don't care.
The Simpson's Movie : A Review
Have you ever seen an episode of The Simpson's? Did you like it? Well there is your movie review. If you dig the show, then the movie is one giant run-on episode with a very sturdy plot, some great gags, a few tear-jerking moments, and some hilarious nudity.
if you aren't a fan of the show then you probably don't care if the movie is any good or not. So you can skip to the bottom for my grade if you want. For those who have thought about going to see it here are some other thoughts:
- Homer is such a big lug of a character. Many a human character has emulated the great Homer, but none can pull off being such a dope like he can.
- Bart is the perfect image of teen angst. Even though he hasn't aged in twenty years he still manages to learn from his mistakes.
- The movie starts off in high gear, but it does lose a little steam in the middle. Don't worry, the plot comes full circle and it finds its groove again.
- A few of the jokes were a bit too forward. One crack on the National Security measures was painfully blatant. A room full of government employees are listening in on ever conversation they can to hear buzz words that might mean national security is in jeopardy. The Simpsons are overheard by one of the agents who stands up and shouts, "I can't believe it, the government actually found someone." Blah, I don't really need to be hit over the head with a joke. Either I get it or I don't.
- The movie translates well on the big screen. The crowd was really into it. The experience was a fun one, but you need to be a big fan to drop 8 or 9 bucks on an 85 minute cartoon. I'm glad I got to check it out for free.

Big Brother Power Rankings # 2
Dustin is HoH, Dick is out-of-power, Kail was saved, and Mike, the nicest guy in the history of the game might also be the dumbest. I understand loyalty, but I also understand 500,000 smackaroos.
This week I have Danielle remaining at the top of this list, but sliding to the bottom is Nick. He is too greasy...well okay, greasy and he is a bad player. At this point I am really starting to believe that Jen is going to win this thing. She is waaaay smarter than I gave her credit for and she seems to be dropping off of a lot of radars. Jessica and Jameka still haven't started playing the game so right now they will remain high on the power list, but with Dustin in charge and no real enemies to speak of it's the quiet players that might find trouble. Comic-Con Lost Tidbits
No huge news was leaked at Comic-con this year. The biggest news was spoiled a day early when media and critics clawed the information from ABC that Harold P. would be returning. Lindelof and Cuse said that Michael will be a full series regular again and that he would appear sometime in the first four episodes. They wouldn't say if he was returning in flash-forwards or in real time.
The flash forwards have always been a part of the plan, but they couldn't introduce them until they had an end date because the story have a very specific frame from this point forward and ruining that surprise early could have caused a lot of story-filler and tap dancing.
Some other bits:
Ben didn't intend to get swept up in Daniele's net in season 2. It was an accident. The big reveal though is still to come because the question we should be asking is "Where was Ben heading."
Daniele's story will be told in the future, but some other things have to sync up with another person first.
Next season will have flash backs and flash forwards, but the most important news about the time line is that the scene with Jack and Kate in the finale is NOT the end of Lost. They will flash every further forward.
No word on who was in the coffin or who exactly is on the freighter.
Libby's story will resurface in season 4. There were some hints that she had significant ties to DHARMA. That's important because she obviously had something to do with Desmond ending up on the island and something to do with Hurley in the mental hospital. They assure us this will be a very good reveal.
Not too much was mentioned about Jacob or Annie or any of the climatic events leading up to the finale which is disappointing since we have so much longer to wait than usual...BUT, I'd rather know too little than too much.

This stuff never happens in Memphis. A television station in Hawaii this week was awarded some new call letters. They are: KUNT. Can you imagine, "good evening and thank you for watching our KUNT."
A station in Arizona (owned by the same man as the one in Hawaii) was awarded KWTF. "Good evening and welcome to K- What The Fuck."

Damages and Saving Grace; 2 Show Reviews
Damages premiered Tuesday night on FX. It is a legal thriller starring Hollywood heavyweight Glenn Close as shark-like attorney Patty Hewes. The show is both legal thriller and mystery. It begins with Rose Byrne climbing out of an elevator bloody and beaten. She stumbles to a police station as the interrogation begins.
The show then jumps back in time six months to show Byrne's character Ellen Parsons interviewing for a job with a law firm. She ultimately takes a job for Hewes's law firm, but not without a stern warning from a friend about Hewes' killer reputation.
Parsons is immediately put on a major case in which Ted Danson is the defendant. He plays a billionaire charged with bilking millions of dollars from his employees in a stock scandal. He doesn't play fair and the two sides quickly engage in deadly games.
How did Parsons end up bloodied six month in the future? Whose blood is it? Why was Parson's immediately thrust on this high profile case when she is so wet behind the ears?
The show is fast paced, there are twists and turns at every corner, and the good guys aren't always as good as you'd hoped. Glenn Close is on the top of her game. This show really is going to be a wild ride for the next three months. Catch a repeat of it as soon as you can.
Now, in a completely different type of show, Holly Hunter takes on the small screen in the new TNT dramedy Saving Grace. Hunter plays Grace, a hard-to-the-core Oklahoma City cop with a bad drinking habit and a big need to sleep around. One night after a night of heavy drinking Grace strikes a man with her car. Luckily Earl, an angel, swoops in to grant her one last chance on God's behalf.
Grace is skeptical at first, but soon comes to realize that Earl is real, not just a drunken figment of her imagination. But can she change her ways? We'll see. Holly Hunter is funny, charming, and almost too hot to handle. You root for her and against her at the same time. But mostly you root for her.
Saving Grace is another summer treat and you can catch Monday night's after The Closer.

Cloverfield
The first poster for JJ Abrams mysterious new movie was released today at Comic-Con. The movie, a monster-themed action flick similar to Godzilla, will hit theaters in January. The secretive production first made news when a teaser trailer premiered before Transformers over the July 4th weekend. The unofficial (working) title of the movie is Cloverfield.
